MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig counterpart of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is scheduled to commence construction by the second quarter of the year to stay on track with its 2027 deadline.

Ayala Land Inc. (ALI), the builder of the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (TCITX), is working on completing the final design of the project this quarter.

Transportation Undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor said if ALI is able to deliver on this target, the company can begin construction by the second quarter and finish the project before the end of 2027.

“Based on our schedule, the construction should be in the second quarter of this year. We need to push our concessionaire to expedite the design phase to start construction on time,” Pastor said.

He said there were delays in pushing the TCITX forward, particularly as its support tollway, the Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME), had to reconfigure its alignment.

The site where TCITX will be built was cleaned up to make way for the project.

Costing P5.2 billion, the TCITX is the Taguig counterpart of the PITX, which is estimated to handle more than 160,000 motorists and 5,200 vehicles daily.

The transport hub will rise on the former site of the Food Terminal Inc. and will be connected to the Metro Manila Subway Project and the North-South Commuter Railway through a walkway.

The TCITX will also be integrated with SEMME, a P55.87-billion expressway being developed by San Miguel Corp., extending for 32.66 kilometers between northern and southern Metro Manila.

SEMME will traverse the eastern side of Metro Manila, mainly through C6 Road.

The tollway is expected to reduce travel time between Western Bicutan in Taguig and Batasan Hills in Quezon City to half an hour, from two hours.

Pastor said the Department of Transportation is still looking for a location for the northern integrated terminal exchange. The DOTr is scouting for sites in Caloocan, Quezon City and Valenzuela.

Pastor said the main consideration for the location of the project is how close it is to other forms of public transport, particularly railways, for ease of transit of commuters.

Although the DOTr is willing to finance the delivery of a northern integrated terminal exchange, it is open to the possibility of bidding it out as a public-private partnership.
