Ever since its establishment in 1923, the Walt Disney Company—then known as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio—has created cinematic magic with its animated features. In 1955, fans were able to live out their fantasy with the opening of the first Disneyland in California. For many Filipinos, experiencing it was a far-off dream—not until Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) was opened in 2005, making it the second one in Asia, following Tokyo Disneyland, which opened in 1983.
'Momentous' featuring choreographed drones
Over the years, a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland has become a staple in many Filipinos’ travel itinerary when heading to Hong Kong. As the park celebrates its 20th anniversary, Filipinos now have even more reasons to return.
Last June, Manila Bulletin Lifestyle flew to Hong Kong to witness the grand launch of Hong Kong Disneyland’s 20th anniversary celebration. Dubbed “The Most Magical Party of All,” the year-long festivities feature elevated experiences that both first-time visitors and longtime fans shouldn’t miss.
The Archivist at Disney's Hollywood Hotel
Welcome to Hollywood
Our “The Most Magical Party of All” experience began at the Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, which was our home throughout the trip. Featuring Art Deco design, gallery-like passageways, and movie- and game-themed areas, the hotel pays homage to the early years of the animation studio.
One of the highlights of our stay was the dinner at The Archivist, a chic bar and restaurant adorned with all things Marvel. We recommend trying the Trio Fish and Chips with Season Salt and Carbonara a la Pepper—best paired with its signature cocktails like the Sorcerer’s Supreme.
Party on the street
On June 28, the official start of “The Most Magical Party of All,” the park was buzzing with tourists from around the world. At the top of our agenda: Securing a good spot along Main Street, U.S.A. to witness the new parade, the largest and most spectacular edition in HKDL to date.
Titled “Friendtastic,” the 30-minute parade brings the party to the street with its 11 awe-inspiring floats featuring more than 30 Disney characters and over 100 performers. Apart from Mickey Mouse and the gang, spotted on the parade were Duffy and Friends, characters from Pixar’s “Toy Story” and “Monsters, Inc.,” as well as Disney Animation’s “Zootopia” and “Big Hero 6,” among others. Some of our favorite floats included the Casita from “Encanto” and the Castle of Magical Dreams, carrying the beloved Disney Princess.
Concert at the Castle of Magical Dreams
Concert at the castle
The celebration continues at Castle of Magical Dreams, where Mickey Mouse and friends perform a concert alongside Duffy and Friends and Disney Princesses. Apart from the electrifying performances, the characters also revealed their look for the anniversary, featuring iridescent colors—a motif reflected throughout the park’s limited-edition 20th anniversary merchandise, including apparel, stationery, home décor, snacks, and plush toys.

Exploring the classics and the new
In between anniversary-specific events, parkgoers can explore HKDL’s themed lands. One must visit the World of Frozen, the first and largest “Frozen”-themed land in the world. Thrillseeker should also make time for classic attractions like Space Mountain, Iron Man Experience, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle.
When it comes to dining, River View Cafe offers comforting Asian meals. But if you want something more festive, try the Mickey and Friends Grand Tea Party Set at Main Street Corner Cafe, or the Party Family Feast at Royal Banquet Hall—both are part of the park’s anniversary offerings.
Immersed in movie magic
For avid parkgoers, the best way to end the HKDL experience is with the breathtaking “Momentous” nighttime spectacular. In celebration of its 20th year, HKDL is going all out with its grandest version yet—“Party in the Sky”—and it lives up to its name.
Extended to 30 minutes, the show features mesmerizing projections, water fountains, flames, lasers, theatrical lighting, and pyrotechnic effects at the Castle of Magical Dreams. The night sky comes to life with choreographed drones, forming figures like the Fairy Godmother from “Cinderella,” the Genie from “Aladdin,” Duffy and Friends, and a glowing “2” and Mickey head that merged to form the signature 20th anniversary logo.
The magic extended beyond the castle. As projections cover Main Street, U.S.A., guests felt as if they were stepping inside beloved Disney movies. Waves from “Moana,” a blanket of marigold petals from “Coco,” and the beauty of a safari from The Lion King flowed across the buildings. A crowd favorite was the Disney Villains sequence, with guests singing along to “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”
‘The Most Magical Party of All’ continues
This celebration is far too extraordinary for just one visit. From now until Dec. 31, 2025, guests can purchase a “Non-stop 2-Day Fun Ticket”, allowing them to enter the park on two consecutive days for just HK$100 (around ₱730) more than the price of a regular one-day ticket.
Additionally, from now until Sept. 27, 2025, guests who buy a designated one-day ticket will receive a complimentary 20th anniversary SouvenEAR Mini Party Hat.
