URDANETA, Pangasinan, Philippines —  The National Irrigation Administration in Ilocos region has intensified water management and irrigation monitoring measures in preparation for the El Niño phenomenon.

Among measures being implemented are tighter water distribution, canal rehabilitation, desilting operation and repair of diversion dams to reduce water losses during the dry spell.

The agency is accelerating the completion of major irrigation projects like the Paitan Dam in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan, which is expected to stabilize irrigation supply in the southern part of the province.
