Ynares family’s 33-year rule over Rizal, and PH’s larger political dynasty problem

In this video, Rappler reporter Dwight de Leon breaks down the consequences of political power remaining within a single family

MANILA, Philippines – Since 1992, only one family — the Ynares — has held the seat of power in the capitol of Rizal, the country’s fifth most populous province.

That means there’s a 33-year-old, full-fledged adult today in Rizal who has only been exposed to one governing family.

In this video, Rappler reporter Dwight de Leon explains why political dynasties are a problem — even on the assumption that they are good, effective leaders — and even when dynasts insist they are only in power because the electorate keeps putting them there. – Rappler.com
