When Filipino seafarers are abandoned at sea

Watch this documentary about sea abandonment and the Filipino seafarers who have been victimized by it

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino seafarers, a top source of manpower in the global maritime industry, have consistently been in the top 5 most abandoned nationalities.

Abandoned seafarers are those whose shipowners have left them without wages, maintenance, and financial support for repatriation. Shipowners abandon their vessels because in cases of bankruptcy, it’s cheaper to just run away than to take care of the crew and the vessel.
