OFWs struggle with internet voting, but remain determined

Some Filipinos still prefer the old system of personally filling out a ballot

SINGAPORE – The month-long period for overseas Filipinos to cast their votes in the 2025 elections is off to a rough start for some voters, as birth pangs hound the Philippines’ first-ever internet-based voting system.

Filipino workers registered in high-tech Singapore are among those experiencing difficulties. As much as they prefer the old system of personally filling up a ballot at the embassy, the political climate keeps them motivated to vote, no matter what.

The voting period began on Sunday, April 13, and will last until 7 pm on election day in the Philippines, May 12. Almost all of the 1.24 million Filipinos registered abroad are slated to vote via the internet.
