The majestic glaciers at the Earth’s poles may be far from sunny Philippines, but Filipinos are not immune to the effects of glacial melt
This year, the United Nations celebrates World Water Day focusing on glacier preservation. According to its website, glaciers are considered “critical to life,” with their meltwater supporting drinking water, agriculture, industry, clean energy production, and healthy ecosystems.
Melting glaciers contribute to sea level rise, which threatens coastal cities across the country. Filipino communities face increased risks of sinking land, while communities in other parts of the world face droughts and landslides.
