SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — Two Chinese nationals have been arrested in connection with an alleged illegal waste tire processing facility in this province.

Agents of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided the RP Oil Tire Pyrolysis facility located in an industrial park in Barangay San Pablo Libutad in San Simon on Thursday.

Col. Grant Gollod, chief of the CIDG-Central Luzon, said the raid was based on complaints filed by residents and workers in the industrial park.

The complainants said the facility had been emitting excessive smoke, dust and foul stench, posing serious health risk to the community.

The raiding team said they seized whole and cut tires as well as various industrial equipment and heavy machinery worth P9.5 million.

The Chinese men, identified only as Wang and Yang, will be charged for violating Republic Act 6969 or the Clean Air Act and the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, the CIDG said.
