MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Robin Padilla on Friday, February 20, said that he is ready to run for vice president if former president Rodrigo Duterte asks him to.
Vice President Sara Duterte has declared her intention to run for president in 2028, igniting talks of political alliances and possible opponents. Padilla has been floated as a possible running mate for Duterte.
“Kapag utos ni Digong. Walang pwedeng mag-utos sa akin kahit sino, si Digong lang. Kasi ayaw ko talaga ng pulitika, alam naman lahat ng… nanay ko alam 'yan, mga kapatid ko, asawa ko. Basta sinabi ni Digong, susunod ako,” Padilla said in a virtual press conference.
(If Digong orders it. No one can tell me what to do, only Digong. Because I do not like politics, everyone knows…my mother knows that, my siblings, my wife. As long as it is Digong’s orders, I will follow.)
However, Padilla said that he would also give way to other more experienced politicians, such as Sen. Imee Marcos, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and even the missing Sen. Bato dela Rosa.
Padilla said he was ready for whatever political mudslinging was coming his way, as he had already gotten used to it.
The Duterte patriarch is currently awaiting trial before the International Criminal Court at The Hague, Netherlands, for crimes against humanity in relation to his bloody drug war, which killed upwards of 6,000 to 30,000 people.
