ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte dismissed speculation that she is campaigning for her senatorial candidates to ensure a good number of allies in the Senate in time for the impeachment trial against her.

“I have not been thinking about that. I leave it up to the lawyers to prepare for the impeachment,” Duterte told reporters here when asked if she is confident of having the numbers needed for acquittal in the Senate impeachment trial.

The Vice President, who has been in this city and in Isabela City, Basilan for two days to campaign for the opposition bloc and her local party candidates, said her battery of lawyers has been preparing since the announced impeachment last October 2023.

“So right now, I leave it up to the lawyers,” Duterte said, adding that she even avoids talking onstage about the impeachment trial.

“I told them that you just leave the impeachment to me, and I am at peace. I am at peace whatever the outcome of the impeachment trial will be, whether it be acquitted or guilty. I have already accepted the two possibilities,” she said.
