MANILA, Philippines — Netizens have been warned against spreading false information claiming that the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections have been postponed.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said the twin elections will proceed as scheduled as it dismissed posts circulating on social media alleging that there have been changes in the election calendar.
Citing Republic Act 12232, the Comelec said the barangay and SK elections will push through on Nov. 2.
Poll officials warned that spreading misleading or fabricated election-related information may constitute an election offense as provided under the Omnibus Election Code.
The Comelec said its task force has been monitoring social media platforms for election disinformation. It urged the public to verify election updates only through official Comelec channels.
