MANILA, Philippines — The United States made quick work of winless Dominican Republic, 25-20, 25-19, 25-12, in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) women’s week 2 on Wednesday at Philsports Arena.

The Americans kicked off their Manila stint on a high note for their third straight win to rise to a 4-1 record in the VNL.

Jordan Thompson led USA’s balanced attack with 15 points off 13 kills and two aces to beat the Dominican Republic in just 80 minutes.

“You know, I think we knew that the Dominican Republic is going to be a really strong team, and so we had to prepare just with a really strong scout,” said Thompson. “I think we’re familiar with a lot of these players, and so practicing, training, and just trying to gel together as a group to give us a new roster this week.”

Danna Rettke unloaded five blocks and five kills for 10 points to backstop Thompson. Logan Eggleston also scored 10, while Chiaka Ogbogu added eight.

USA returned to the Philippines since the country’s last hosting of the VNL Women’s in 2022.

USA takes on Czechia on Thursday at 4 p.m.

No players from the Dominican Republic scored in double figures. Paola Peña Isabel had eight points, while Alondra Denis Tapia added five, as they remained winless in five games.

Dominican Republic returns to action on Friday against Serbia.
