Kyle Jennermann, the content creator behind the Becoming Filipino vlog, cast his first-ever vote as a naturalized Filipino citizen on Monday.
On Facebook, Kyle shared his thoughts and observations on his voting experience in his precinct in Taguig City.
He said it took him just 45 minutes to vote and commended the process.
“Overall I was really impressed. Confident in everything to do with my votes being counted. Great vibe and helpful staff,” he said.
Among the things he liked were the big signage to help everyone find where to go, the number system for the people in line, and the voting receipt to double check the votes.
“My name with picture was posted on the door to the voting area. literally no one could vote as me,” he said. “You not only have to find your image and name, but give your fingerprint. The fact you have to register in advance with Comelec, and then they have this... very professional and safe.”
Kyle also made some comparisons to the polling in his native Canada, such as the “open” classroom setting instead of a “hidden cubicle” structure.
“It would make it a bit easier for someone to possibly see who you are voting for. And with a long sheet for voting, I found it would be quite difficult to actually hide all my selections... because I didn't want to fold or crinkle the voters sheet,” he said.
“Just felt a bit harder to be ‘secretive’ with your ballot,” he added.
He also noticed the people who were distributing “sample ballots” outside the polling station.
“I believe this was to possibly motivate me or influence me to vote for specific line ups. Or I guess remind people who didn't write down their list?” he said.
He then encouraged everyone to go out and vote until the polling closes at 7 p.m.
Kyle became a naturalized Filipino citizen in 2023.
