COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Officials of different line agencies and the Army’s 4th Infantry Division together extended essential humanitarian and livelihood support to communities from across its territories via a pro-poor public service caravan in Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City on Wednesday, April 8.
Major Gen. Michele Anayron, Jr., commander of 4th ID, said on Friday that among groups that benefited from the public service activity were former members of the now-defunct New People’s Army who had pledged allegiance to the government in batches in recent years.
Members of various people’s organizations, or POs, from the areas being secured by the 401st, 402nd and 403rd Infantry Brigades of the 4th ID availed of the services of different government agencies, including the regional offices of the Department of Trade and Investment 10, the Department of Social Welfare and Development 10, during the day-long event.
Radio reports on Friday stated that representatives from the Philippine Army’s Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations, also known as the G7, led by Colonel Ricky Canatoy, was in the forefront of Wednesday’s activity in Camp Evangelista.
The office of Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Carlito Galvez, Jr., officials of the Department of Agriculture 10 and their central office in Metro Manila and the director of the Police Regional Office 10, Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano, supported the public service caravan extensively.
The inter-agency public service mission was capped off with the turnover of a housing unit to the Anlag Ani Tapukanan Cooperative of former NPAs from different towns being secured jointly by the Army's 58th Infantry Battalion and PRO-10.
Members of the cooperative will use the unit as an office and venue for meetings of its officials, all former members of the NPA, from groups that surrendered in recent years through the intercession of local executives and 4th ID officials.
