TUGUEGARAO CITY - A 72-year-old village chair in Barangay 2, Enrile, Cagayan was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants at around 2:20 p.m. on Friday, police said.
Killed was Bernardo Gacuan, 72, village chief of Barangay 2 in Enrile town.
Probers said Gacuan was about to enter the barangay hall when one of the suspects, who rode a motorcycle without a plate number, tailed him and repeatedly shot him from behind.
Police said the gunman wore a black long sleeved shirt and gray pants while the driver wore a jersey sando and black pants. Both were wearing motorcycle helmets.
The victim was brought to St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag Jr., Cagayan Valley regional police director, said they are pursuing the killers.
A probe team has been reviewing CCTV footage in the vicinity to help in the investigation while the Scene of the Crime operatives had processed the crime scene.
