MANILA, Philippines — Host-comedian Vice Ganda is weighing the decision on becoming a parent via surrogacy as it would mean temporarily stepping away from "It's Showtime" hosting duties.

Vice sat down for an interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila and in the latter half of they conversation, the two discussed Vice's relationship with husband and co-host Ion Perez.

The 49-year-old comedian admitted the couple want to have children through surrogacy, specifically using Vice's genes because Ion said Vice's were smarter than his.

Surrogacy is an assisted reproductive arrangement where another woman consents to carry a child for another person or couple.

It came to a point that Vice met with a doctor for consultation and planning but was told they'd have to rest for three months.

"Kung stressed daw ako, hindi healthy ang sperm. So para makasiguro na maiipunang healthy 'yan, kailangan masaya yung utak at relaxed. Kung pagod ang katawan at utak, hindi sure," explained Vice, who cited their age as a key factor.

Vice does not see an issue with resting for three months, however, the problem lies in leaving "Showtime" for that time period.

"Hindi dahil sa ang kita ko mawawala o pagmamayabang, pero sa sobrang pagmamahal ko sa 'Showtime' parang, what's going to happen if I'm not there for three months?" Vice said, noting that some audiences complain when they're missing for just one week.

In such cases, Vice would be at a movie shoot but even then they'd be monitoring and be a phone call away, so a total distancing would be needed for proper rest.

The comedian reiterated needing to convince themselves if surrogacy is an option as it would mean letting go of "Showtime" for three months on top of check-ups.

"I want kids, I love kids. Gusto ko magmahal, yumakap ng bata, mahalin 'yung bata, tumanggap ng pagmamahal mula sa bata," Vice said, ending with the acknowledgment they could adopt but they still want their own child.

Vice and Ion have been in a relationship since 2018 after first meeting the year before. They took part in a wedding commitment ceremony in 2021 while in Las Vegas.
