MANILA, Philippines — The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines has expressed support for Filipino “Roblox Catholics.”

In a message for the “5th anniversary” of the “Roblox Filipino Catholics” group dated January 10, Apostolic Nuncio Charles Brown lauded the group’s efforts in “offering innovative access to Church catechesis” through the game “Roblox.”

“It is a welcome sign of progress when young Catholics take an active role in shaping a more fraternal and compassionate society. The social hub you have built, albeit virtually, can serve as a space of mutual encouragement, especially for those most in need of support, recognition, and companionship. Such connections can blossom into genuine friendships that strengthen the community,” the nuncio said.

In an email correspondence with Philstar.com, the Secretariat of the Apostolic Nuncio confirmed the authenticity of Brown’s message to the group, “upon the group’s request.”

Brown also lauded the group’s simulation of the Traslacion last month.

“I was happy to learn that you even created an online simulation for this year's Feast Day of Jesus Nazareno, allowing those unable to join the crowd in Quiapo, Manila, to still participate meaningfully,” Brown said.

The nuncio also cited Pope Francis’ “Fratelli Tutti” encyclical in his message to the group:

“As Pope Francis reminded us, 'Social friendship and universal fraternity necessarily call for an acknowledgement of the worth of every human person, always and everywhere" (Fratelli Tutti, 2020, §106).”

Brown also echoed Pope Leo XIV’s call for the Roblox Filipino Catholic community to strive for holiness and be witnesses of their faith.

According to a gaming blog, the group was formed in 2019 to build digital replicas of landmarks like Quiapo Church and the Black Nazarene, preserving Filipino Catholic heritage in the game Roblox.

Members role-play a Catholic hierarchy—including bishops, priests, deacons, and monks—hosting virtual masses, homilies, novenas, and events like the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
