MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) will implement a five-day mandatory break to allow its faculty and staff to celebrate Christmas with their families and to save on utilities and maintenance during the holiday season.
UP president Angelo Jimenez issued a memorandum, ordering a mandatory break at the UP system on Dec. 19, 22, 23, 26 and 29.
Jimenez said all transactions and relevant required reports should be completed by Dec. 18.
“All UP offices will be closed during the break except for units that should remain operational albeit with a small number of essential employees,” the memorandum stated.
Jimenez said the safety and security of UP offices and building premises shall be ensured.
The five-day break covers permanent, temporary, contractual, casual and substitute personnel of UP.
The employee’s mandatory leave is charged to the current year’s vacation leave credits.
Those who will be granted exemption from the mandatory break must physically report to work.
“As the operations of the UP Philippine General Hospital are different from that of the constituent universities, a separate advisory on work arrangements for UP-PGH employees shall be issued,” Jimenez said.
