THE National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), led by Executive Director Carminda Arevalo, will unveil the historical marker "Concepcion Presidencia Building" on April 30, 8 a.m.
The marker states in Filipino:
"Built by the bureau of public works, concrete structure was designed by Juan Arellano under the administration of Gregorio Palma, 1929. Fallen under the Japanese army during World War II, 1941. Temporarily became a staff of the people's anti-Japan army (Hukbalahap), which lasted for three weeks after the Japanese leaving, 1945. Became the office of former senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Simeon Aquino Jr. when he served as mayor, 1956-1959. Featured on the five-hundred peso bill of the new design series of the Central Bank of the Philippines, 1986-2010. Survived damage from the earthquake and Pinatubo volcano eruption, 1991. Renovated by the city government of Concepcion, 2007. Its style is based on the Davao Presidencia, which was built in 1926."
NHCP Executive Director Arevalo will present the marker after which Concepcion Mayor Noel Villanueva will deliver his acceptance message.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
