BAGUIO CITY — The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) conducted a Policy Makers Training/Workshop for Baguio City on the Comprehensive Approach to Drug Control and Drug Demand Reduction from Jan. 21 to Jan 23 this year at the Grand Sierra Pines Baguio.
In a letter to Mayor Benjamin Magalong dated Dec. 16, 2024, UNODC Program Office in the Philippines Officer in Charge Jo-Ann Emilene De Belen said the UNODC is mandated to assist member states like the Philippines to address drug-related challenges through scientific, evidence-based and balanced approaches.
"We emphasize the importance of prevention, treatment and care for individuals affected by drug use and dependence, as well as their families," said De Belen.
"Since the establishment of the UNODC in the Philippines in 2017, we have worked not just with the national government on strategic initiatives but also engaged actively with local government units (LGUs) to strengthen community-based approaches," added the UNODC officer.
The UNODC has also assisted LGUs in identifying and implementing evidence-based interventions tailored to various populations requiring treatment and care, De Belen added.
