MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University has reinstated Manolo Refugia as head coach and boosted his coaching staff with PLDT champion coach Rald Ricafort as a consultant ahead of the UAAP Season 89 women’s volleyball tournament next year.

FEU on Friday announced Refugia’s promotion as head coach after parting ways with coach Tina Salak, who called the shots for the Lady Tamaraws after three UAAP seasons.

Refugia already handled FEU as interim in UAAP Season 86 and brought back the squad to the Final Four with a 9-5 record.

“Having served as assistant coach, Refugia brings continuity, a deep understanding of the team’s culture, and a strong commitment to the continued development of FEU student-athletes,” the school said.

“With Coach Refugia and Coach Ricafort leading the next chapter of the program, FEU looks forward to building on its strong foundation and continuing its pursuit of excellence on and off the court.”

Refugia’s squad neutralized National University’s twice-to-beat advantage in their Final Four duel before falling short to the eventual champion.

Ricafort, meanwhile, is also returning to the UAAP after handling the University of the Philippines men’s volleyball in Seasons 82 and 84. He also served as deputy for Jerry Yee in UP women’s and Adamson.

“His [Ricafort] extensive experience and proven track record at the professional level will provide valuable strategic guidance as the team continues to build toward future success,” FEU wrote.
