Former UP men's basketball player and Ateneo high school coach Xavy Nunag resigns as UAAP basketball commissioner to focus on her personal life and business
MANILA, Philippines – Former UP men’s basketball player and former Ateneo high school coach Xavy Nunag has stepped down from his post as UAAP basketball commissioner, the league announced on Saturday, April 12.
Nunag, who will focus on his “business pursuits” per the league release, served as overall commissioner for two seasons — a step up from his previous post as Season 85 high school basketball commissioner.
“On behalf of the UAAP, we extend our deepest gratitude to Commissioner Xavy Nunag for his service to the league,” said UAAP Season 87 treasurer and former Fighting Maroons coach Bo Perasol of host school UP.
“His leadership introduced meaningful innovations in our basketball officiating and tournament management, and we are truly thankful for the dedication and professionalism he brought to the role.”
Marvin Bienvenida, who serves as high school boys and junior high school boys divisions commissioner, will take over Nunag for the upcoming 3×3 basketball tournament in May.
Nunag left soon after collegiate women’s and high school girls’ divisions commissioner Mariana Lopa also tendered her resignation.
“It has been a pleasure working with Commissioners Xavy and Atty. Mariana. Their contributions have greatly elevated the standard of our basketball tournaments,” said UAAP executive director Rebo Saguisag.
“We are confident that Commissioner Marvin will continue the fine work they have started as we get ready for the 3×3 season.” – Rappler.com
