Don Trollano delivers quality minutes off the bench to help San Miguel return to its triumphant ways in the PBA Philippine Cup with a convincing win over Phoenix

MANILA, Philippines – Don Trollano presided over a second-quarter breakaway as San Miguel nailed a 111-92 win over Phoenix in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday, May 11.

Trollano scattered 10 of his 21 points in the second period and added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in 22 minutes off the bench to help the Beermen return to their triumphant ways for their fourth victory in six games.

It was a bounce-back performance from Trollano, who went scoreless in an 89-84 loss to TNT exactly a week ago.

“Just play hard,” Trollano said of his mentality. “We needed to step up. We cannot afford to lose back-to-back games, because if we did, we’ll fall in the standings.”

San Miguel held a 30-29 edge after the opening salvo before it pulled away, outscoring the Fuel Masters 34-21 in the second frame to build a 64-50 halftime cushion.

That lead grew as big as 24 points, 89-65, as two more players reached the 20-point plateau for the Beermen.

CJ Perez fired a game-high 26 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, while June Mar Fajardo posted a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Marcio Lassiter added 11 points in the win.

Rookie forward Kai Ballungay produced 23 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals to pace Phoenix, which fell to 2-4.

The Fuel Masters got off to a promising start as they led 20-13 off a Jason Perkins bucket only to witness San Miguel go on a 34-13 run bridging the first and second quarters to fall behind 33-47.

Perkins put up 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Kenneth Tuffin had 16 points in the losing effort.
