BACOLOD CITY — Trekking and religious activities are strictly prohibited in Kanlaon volcano.
In a memorandum dated April 12, 2025, the Regional Task Force Kanlaon prohibits any form of pilgrimage and trekking, especially entry into the 6-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) during the observance of the Holy Week.
All Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs) of concerned local government units surrounding Mt. Kanlaon have been directed to activate their Incident Management Teams (IMTs) and to immediately place all responders on high alert status to ensure preparedness and rapid response capability.
The volcano is a favorite area for trekkers during the summer season and those who do religious activities during the holy week, especially those involved in faith healing.
In Negros Occidental, the Provincial DRRM Council and Emergency Operations Center will go on blue alert from 8 a.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Easter Monday (April 21).

Blue status signifies heightened monitoring, increased preparedness and enhanced coordination to actively track potential issues and respond to ongoing emergencies.
It also involves intensified communication and collaboration among concerned agencies, LGUs, and emergency response teams, who are on standby and prepared to act as necessary.
Negros Occidental has the most LGUs affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.
These include the cities of Bago, La Carlota and San Carlos, as well as La Castellana town, which all host several active evacuation centers since the explosive eruption on Dec. 9, 2024.
On April 14, the volcano had three volcanic eruptions that spanned one to three hours.
It also recorded 33 volcanic earthquakes and five volcanic tremors.
The last time Kanlaon erupted was on April 8.
