MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. certified as urgent the abolition of the travel tax, as well as several other bills, the Palace announced on Tuesday, February 10. 

Marcos met with the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC), which is composed of representatives from Congress and other departments, to discuss priority laws that needed to be fasttracked. 

Among these laws was the Travel Tax Abolition. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate have their own versions of the bill, with presidential son and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos and senators Raffy and Erwin Tulfo filing in their respective chambers. 

The travel tax has long been criticized for being a hindrance to the tourism industry. 

Marcos also certified as urgent the swift passage of the Expanded Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act of 2026, as well as a law penalizing fake news and digital disinformation. 

As it stood, 21 priority legislation is being targeted for passage by July 2026:

  3. Citizen Access and Disclosure of Expenditures for National Accountability (CADENA) Act
  4. Independent People’s Commission Act
  5. Amendments to the Bank Deposits Secrecy Law / Banking Reform for Integrity, Good Governance, Honesty, and Transparency (BRIGHT) Act
  6. Right to Information Act
  7. Amendments to the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act
  8. Amendments to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Act
  9. Amendments to the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act
  10. Amendments to the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) Act
