ILOILO CITY — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) and MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) have successfully energized a new 100-megavolt-ampere (MVA) transformer at the NGCP substation in Iloilo City.

This development effectively doubles the substation's capacity from 50 MVA to 100 MVA, addressing the city's escalating energy demands and laying the groundwork for future economic expansion.

MORE Power president Roel Castro said the upgraded capacity is expected to bolster the reliability of MORE Power's distribution network, particularly benefiting the Megaworld and Jaro substations.

"This is a significant step forward in ensuring a reliable and robust power grid for Iloilo City," he said.

"This upgrade will provide the necessary capacity to support the city's growth and attract new investments," he added.

Castro said that the energization is part of a broader initiative to achieve a 3x100 MVA capacity.

MORE Power is planning to enhance another transformer within the year to achieve a total capacity of 2x100 MVA by year-end and reach the full 3x100 MVA by 2026.

The upgrades come in response to the city's growing energy needs, which have been highlighted by previous concerns over potential power shortages and rotating blackouts due to delays in critical infrastructure projects.

"This is a win-win situation for everyone. It shows that we are all working together to build a brighter future for Iloilo City," Castro said.
