MANILA, Philippines — Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) is recalling over 28,000 units of the Raize to address the faulty engine ECU (electronic control unit) reprogramming.
In a letter to the Department of Trade and Industry Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau officer-in-charge director Cherryl Carbonell, TMP first vice president Bernardino Arevalo said the automotive firm is conducting a special service campaign for 28,828 units of the Raize produced from Dec. 1, 2021 to July 15, 2024, as part of the commitment to product safety and quality.
The Raize units are equipped with a certain engine ECU.
“Due to improper programming of the engine ECU, under certain driving conditions, such as frequent braking operation in high altitude areas, there is a possibility that the suction pressure in the brake booster could not be maintained as designed,” Arevalo said.
If this occurs, pressing the brake pedal may become more difficult, increasing the time it takes for the vehicle to stop.
Arevalo said the service would be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners.
TMP will be issuing letters to affected customers.
Affected customers will also be invited by authorized Toyota dealers for the reprogramming.
To prevent problems, TMP is encouraging affected customers to immediately set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealer for the necessary reprogramming of the engine ECU.
Customers may also schedule the repair during the periodic maintenance appointment, if the vehicle is due for such.
