MUNICIPAL employees of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte have sought the temporary relocation of their office operation or allow them to work from home in the wake of a series of violent incidents in their municipality.
But instead of calling the attention of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on their plight, the employees sought the assistance of the Civil Service Commission field office because as government employees they have to remain apolitical.
They said that they just want to restore normalcy in their municipality.
In a letter to Civil Service Commission Field Office Director 2 Alona Carumba, Kauswagan Local Government Administrative Officer 4 Christian Tomo reported that on Feb. 14, armed men destroyed the closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and cut internet wires in the municipal building, badly affecting the working employees.
Badly affected were the accounting and treasury units as well as the assessor's office, which has the municipality's Enhanced Tax Revenue and Collection System (Etracs), a web-based system used by the local government to collect taxes and business permits.

The loss of the internet and surveillance system has not only delayed or disrupted operations and critical services in the municipality but also endangered the lives of employees, Tomo said.
He also lamented that some policemen have occupied several offices in their building and turned them into "living quarters," with their clothes and underwear hanging outside the windows.
