MANILA, Philippines — Barely a year after its market listing, Top Line Business Development Corp. is taking its first step toward global expansion with the planned creation of a subsidiary in Singapore.

Top Line’s board of directors approved the move yesterday, positioning the Singapore-based entity to serve as a global trading arm that will facilitate fuel importation.

The listed fuel retailer of Cebu’s Lim family said the subsidiary would enable direct access to global suppliers, sharpen procurement strategies and ramp up its importation activities.

“This initiative is a strategic step toward our long-term vertical integration strategy by optimizing our end-to-end supply chain,” Top Line first vice president and chief finance officer Constance Marie Lim said.

Through this expansion, she said the company aims to strengthen the reliability of its fuel supply while streamlining its cost structure to operate more efficiently.

“Over time, this is expected to contribute to better margins and more efficient fuel sourcing across our network,” Lim added.

The proposed subsidiary will be registered under Singapore laws, the company said in a regulatory filing yesterday.

The Singapore expansion follows the recent issuance of a certificate of registration by the Bureau of Customs to Topline Logistics and Development Corp., the group’s logistics subsidiary.

The certificate effectively authorized Top Line to engage in fuel importation activities.

In April last year, the company raised P732.6 million from its listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange, providing much-needed financial muscle to capture a larger market.

Since going public, Top Line has rapidly expanded its retail fuel presence through key acquisitions, including a gas station in Cebu from Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc.

It also recently purchased 38 gasoline stations, a depot facility and 15 fuel tanker trucks from Total Oil & Gas Resources Inc. and Ballston Metro Corp.
