CEBU CITY — A 51-year-old farmer was shot dead early Wednesday morning while harvesting tomatoes in Sitio Danawan, Barangay Biga in Toledo City, Cebu.

The victim, identified as Bacalso Dacuma, a resident of Sitio Cumba in the same barangay, was declared dead on arrival at the Toledo City Hospital.

SSgt. Roberto Eribito, the investigator handling the case at the Toledo City Police Station, said Dacuma left home early to harvest tomatoes at the farm when the shooting occurred.

Dacuma's common-law partner, Lea Kilag, said she heard a gunshot shortly after he left the house, prompting her to check on him.

Kilag recounted that she saw Dacuma lying in a pool of blood upon arriving at the farm.

Authorities said the victim was only a few meters away from his 16-year-old son, Lenmar Manolong, at the time of the incident.

Eribito said investigators are pursuing several angles, including personal grudges or conflicts related to the victim's livelihood but the police have yet to identify the suspect.

Kilag, meanwhile, described Dacuma as a good person who had no known enemies in the area.

Police are urging potential witnesses to come forward to aid in the investigation.
