Dennis, mga anak at nanay
MANILA, Philippines — It was in 2014 when Julia Barretto filed a petition to change her surname from Baldivia (Dennis's legal surname) to Barretto.
Julia's camp denied then that Dennis' lack of financial support was the reason why the young actress wanted to change her surname.
In a statement sent by lawyer Lorna Kapunan, it said the reason behind the petition is to “prevent confusion” on the name she uses in public and on her records.
In December 2014, Dennis said he was hurt when he got snubbed by Julia at a Dreamscape's Christmas party.
But Dennis and Julia became okay again when Julia invited Dennis at her 18th birthday party.
“Papa being his comedian self,” Julia captioned the post she posted on Instagram.
Dennis attended the birthday party and they agreed to leave the past behind after Julia withdrew her petition to change her surname.
In September 2015, however, Dennis said that Julia had not formally withdrawn her petition.
In June 2022, Dennis had a heated social media exchange with his son Leon.
Dennis posted on Instagram that he didn't receive any Father's Day greetings from her children with actress Marjorie Barretto.
A few days later, Leon took to Instagram to post an open letter for his father.
“For the past 10 years, we have been trying so hard to slowly rebuild the bridge you continuously burn every time you talk about our private matters in your presscons, interviews and social media. Papa, why does it seem like you enjoy hurting your kids in public?” Leon wrote.
“Why do you keep posting cryptic posts about us and allow people to bash us on your own Instagram page? Do you think it does not pain all of us not to feel protected by their own father? It’s not that we don’t want to talk to you but the few times we do to resolve the issues, you communicate by shouting, cursing, and using hurtful words that traumatize us,” he added.
Days after, Dennis apologized.
“I am sorry Leon... Miss ko lang kyo... God bless you more!” Dennis said.
Weeks after, Dennis called out Julia after her interview with Karen Davila where she said that she lacked in fatherly love and protection.
“Ako ang dapat takbuhan mo Julia…. I defended you pero nagalit pa kayo sa akin… Sobra kayo… Ano etong mga kwento mo kay Karen??” he said.
This year, Dennis shared a photo of him with his children with Marjorie. It looked like everything was fine, until Claudia's wedding.
In a now deleted post, Dennis said that he became a visitor to the wedding of Claudia and Basti Lorenzo and not the father of the bride.
"NABUDOL NYO AKO! FATHER OF THE BRIDE NAGING VISITOR. GALING NYO!" Dennis wrote.
Dennis brother Gene Padilla then defended his brother's rant.
Later that day, Ogie Diaz interviewed Dennis Padilla to ask for his side on what happened at the wedding.
Dennis said that it had been better if he was not invited to the wedding.
“One of the most painful part ng buhay ko na naranasan. Wala ito sa kalahati ng mga naranasan ko sa kanila sa mga nakaraan, pati nu'ng mga debut. Wala,” he said.
Dennis said that he already surrendered in trying to fix things up with his children.
"Ayoko na. Surrender na. I’m finished… Tatay na lang nila ako pero bringing back the relationship, wala na siguro. Maybe we can just play around with the memories pero that’s it, finished,” he said.
After the interview was published, Julia posted on her Instagram Story a cyptic post about narcissistic parents.
