MANILA, Philippines — Millennials and Gen Zs, rejoice! The Jonas brothers Joe, Nick, and Kevin will be back as Shane, Nate, and Jason Gray for the long-awaited Camp Rock 3, which has just been officially greenlit by Disney.

On Wednesday, September 17, Disney Branded Television announced that Camp Rock 3 is now in production and filming will start this week in Vancouver, Canada.

“It’s on! Today, Disney Branded Television confirmed that Camp Rock 3 has been greenlit for Disney+ and Disney Channel. Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Kevin Jonas will return to their iconic roles,” it reads on the Walt Disney Company website.

To excite fans of the original duology, the Jonas Brothers took to YouTube Shorts to share the good news, joined by their fellow castmates reprising their roles.

“It’s time to head back to camp!” said Nick in the video, the youngest of the Jonas Brothers, who starred in the movie as Nate Gray of the band Connect 3.

Joining the cast are both familiar and fresh faces from the Disney universe. Fans of Descendants, ZOMBIES, and Electric Bloom on Disney+ will recognize Liamani Segura, Malachi Barton, and Lumi Pollack, while newcomers Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts, and Ava Jean are making their Disney movie debut.

Wizards of Waverly Place alum Maria Canlas-Barrera will also reprise her role as Connie Torres, as Camp Rock’s newly hired caterer and mother to Mitchie Torres from the original films. Joining the camp is Joy Ride star Sherry Cola as Lark.

The plot will continue from the sequel Camp Rock: The Final Jam, which will revolve around the band Connect 3 (Jonas Brothers) losing their opening act for their upcoming reunion tour.

This drives them to go back to Camp Rock to discover the next big pop star. Campers are vying for the spot as the opening act, with the band being introduced to talented siblings Sage (Segura) and Desi (Stone), cello genius Rosie (Pollack), aspiring drummer Cliff (Trotter), dancing queen Callie (Pitts), influencer Madison (Jean), and the camp’s brooding bad boy Fletch (Barton).

Although her on-cam return is still unknown, former Disney star and now multi-awarded singer Demi Lovato is confirmed to be an executive producer with the Jonas Brothers. Lovato starred in the first two movies as the female protagonist Mitchie Torres, a teenager striving to be a singer.

Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis explained the decision to produce a third movie.

“Camp Rock is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day. Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick, and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation,” Davis said.

Camp Rock is a Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) released in 2008. The story follows Mitchie Torres, who enrolls in Camp Rock, a summer music camp, and aspires to become a singer despite her introverted nature.

According to an article by E! News, the movie averaged 8.9 million viewers on Disney Channel — making it the second-highest DCOM at the time behind High School Musical 2, released a year before.

Due to the commercial success of the first film, Disney went on to release Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010. The story immediately follows with the Camp Rock crew facing a new rival music camp called Camp Star, and many of its members switching sides before the Final Jam.
