Heads up travelers to Rome!
The Sistine Chapel is now closed to the public because of the Conclave, which is set to take place beginning May 7.
According to an Instagram post by the Vatican Museums, the majestic Sistine Chapel — which boasts of frescos done by Michelangelo — has been closed since April 28.
"Likewise, all visits to the Vatican Gardens and the Necropolis of the Via Triumphalis are suspended," it added.
A quick visit to the Vatican Museums website confirmed the advisory. "Ladies and gentlemen, we hereby inform you you that the Sistine Chapel will be closed to the public starting from Monday 28 April 2025 for the needs of the Conclave," read the translated notification on the website, when attempting to purchase tickets to the museum.

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21. His funeral on April 26 drew thousands of mourners including world leaders like Donald Trump, who met with Ukraine President Vlodymyr Zelensky in the sidelines at Vatican. Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. was also there with First Lady Liza Marcos.
Several Cardinals are being talked about as "papabili" to succeed Pope Francis, including FIlipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.
Earlier this week, the Holy See posted the minimum qualifications for becoming a pope on LinkedIn.
