'TWAS a romance that came and went in the blink of an eye.

The love story starring Kyline Alcantara and Kobe Paras may well be regarded as the shortest, but not necessarily the least colorful given the quick succession of events surrounding it.

Yeah, things unfolded so fast that one day they hit it off as a couple only to see their romance fall apart. Very sadly, just like that.

Kyline and Kobe didn't even last a year!

For whatever it's worth, let's take a snappy look at how it all began, until it ended.

It was in May last year when dating rumors about them started to surface. Pictures both Kyline and Kobe posted separately on social media yet bearing similar background — all taken at a resto in Makati City —proved to be tell-tale signs of a brewing closeness.

Moreso when Kobe left a heart-eyed emoji on Kyline's post which he even shared on his Instagram Stories.

Came June, the two seemed to have deliberately embarked on a "soft launch" of what to expect of them. Around Bonifacio Global City, Kyline and Kobe were sighted "HHWW" (holding hands while walking) —how else could we call that?

Kyline, however, brushed it aside saying: "We're just friends!" Of course, she was taking everyone for a ride!

Their constant togetherness had spilled over GMA Gala the following month (though the biggest scene stealers then were Sandro Muhlach and his two independent contractor-assailants).

It was on this glitzy occasion where Kobe sort of paraphrased Kyline's "We're friends!" hackneyed line, swearing: "We're great friends!"

We all knew it wouldn't take long enough to see the clearer picture.

In an August interview, Kyline — expressing her gratitude to Kobe's unflinching support — categorically said: "He makes me happy!"

Career-wise, that happiness paid off as September had beckoned Kyline's first ever project together with Kobe.

The two headlined an online miniseries dubbed as Miss Legends (which was up for streaming from September 28 to October 1).

It was also at the start of the "Ber" months that the two attended New York Fashion Week with Kobe taking to social media Kyline's runway walk with Filipino fashion maven Chris Nick.

At this point, privy to her son's personal goings-on, Kobe's mom, former actress Jackie Forster made her presence felt. She was also openly supportive of Kobe and Kyline.

It was only in an exclusive interview by fashion magazine Cosmopolitan Philippines in November that Kobe had confirmed he and Kyline were dating out.

Everything that followed seemed to have come in handy.

By December, Kyline had already introduced Kobe to her parents Butch and Rowena. Kobe had likewise spent the holidays with Kyline's family.

Meanwhile, meeting up with Kobe's family had a "US version" with the couple jetting off to Los Angeles, California.

But what was expected to deepen Kyline and Kobe's love for each other turned otherwise. Reports have it that their relationship had gone sideways after their US sojourn.

By mid-April, eagle-eyed netizens were shocked to see Kyline was no longer following Kobe on IG-l — sparking rumors about their breakup. Days later, it was Kobe's turn to unfollow Kyline.

The entertainment press has always had an easy access to the ever-approachable Benjie Paras, Kobe's dad.

Asked about the swirling breakup talks, Benjie simply gave it a nonchalant shrug: "Sila pa rin. Nag-iinuman pa nga kami noong isang gabi (No, they still are a couple. In fact, were having drinks the other night)!"

Benjie's seemingly plausible answer, however, ran counter to Jackie's video narrative (released on April 27).

The former Regal baby took the cudgels for Kobe as she fiercely lambasted Kyline for her behavior totally unbecoming of a supposedly straight-laced partner.

Jackie renounced (as told by Kobe) Kyline's grabbing and checking her son's mobile phone. Worse, getting violent toward Kobe.

She likewise corrected Kyline's version of her "condo story," saying it was she who wanted Kobe to stay with her at the unit. It was also on Kyline's own volition that Kobe use her car, Jackie added.

In summation — quoting Kobe: "My son is so generous that he gives his all. He sticks to one, so it's not true that he cheated on her!"

As we always say, mother knows best.
