The Embassy of Spain, through the Instituto Cervantes and its Cultural and Education Offices, closes the final page of its cultural agenda this year without disappointing the public, offering activities to suit everyone’s taste, from exhibits to conferences, from gastronomy to mathematics, from master classes to concerts, just to name a few.
Most recently, world-renowned baritone Luis Llanez has offered master classes to budding Filipino singers from the Philippine Women´s University and the University of Sto. Tomas as well as the University of the Philippines, the last two being the venue of Spanish singer´s recitals.
Meanwhile, street art collective Boa Mistura returns this month to the country refreshed with a new palette of energy after successfully painting in 2024 a basketball court in Tejeros in Makati.
Students at Enderun are to have a first-hand experience with Chele González, the first Spanish chef in the Philippines to be recognized with a MICHELIN star, giving a talk on his gastronomic journey to being awarded with one of the most coveted and prestigious honors in the culinary world. It is expected to inspire young Filipino gastronomy enthusiasts and professionals as well as encourage anyone to get interested in cooking.
These activities culminate a year that has seen SpyArt participating in Art Fair Philippines; Vicenç Prunés delighting the audience during the International Bamboo Organ Festival; art enthusiasts being amazed by an exhibit of the works of Fernando Zóbel at the Ayala Museum; the eclectic style of music of Manu Chao giving pleasure to young and old alike; Miguel Trápaga serenading listeners with his guitar; the SBK Festival making people get up and dance; lovers of electronic music having a great time at the Unknown and Medium Rare Festival; Spanish and Filipino neurosurgeons gathering together in Legazpi for the first time to share their expertise; photographic works of Bernardo Aja catching the eye of everyone; El Día del Libro attesting that books are here to stay; the film festival Pelikula 2025 remaining a crowd-pleaser; Ramón Grau offering a workshop on zarzuela as well as a concert; math professor Fernando Blasco demonstrating the basics of algebra through mathematical games and magic tricks in several schools in Manila; the exhibit Mezcla: Interwoven Cultures and the Mantón de Manila taking museum goers back to the Galleon Trade; National Designer Awardee Héctor Serrano not only participating in the Design Week Philippines 2025, but also sharing his talent and ideas with a series of talks at DLSU- College of St. Benilde, UST and UP; preeminent historian María Dolores Elizalde captivating audiences with her expertise on Philippine history; top Spanish universities joining the European Higher Education Fair; VII Jornadas de Español como Lengua Extranjera celebrating the language pof Cervantes; Nerea Luis expounding on what artificial intelligence could bring us in the future; marine biologist Isabel Nuñez Lendo educating students that each one could make a difference in protecting marine life; the Spanish women´s futsal team greeting and meeting students of Poveda; Juan Manuel Bellver narrating the history of Spanish wines by linking it to works and authors of Spanish literature; and two Spanish architects residing in Japan and experts in heritage conservation sharing their work and insights to architecture students.
Art buffs may still catch up on three on-going exhibits: Four Centuries of Spanish Engineering Overseas, a permanent exposition displayed at the Centro de Turismo in Intramuros; while the Ateneo Art Gallery hosts A Synergy of Ventures. The Post War Art Scene in commemoration of Fernando Zobel´s centennial birth until February 2026 as well as Mezcla: Interwoven Cultures and the Mantón de Manila at the Ayala Museum.
