Love was definitely in the air - even if it was a day past Valentine's Day - at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center as fans of the real-life couple Dai Nakai and Shun Nakanishi gathered there for the pair's first-ever fan meeting.
Billed as “a perfect celebration of love, connection, and unforgettable moments”, the fan meeting involved Dai and Shun, or more popularly known by their couple portmanteau DaiShun meeting not just members of the press but their fans here in the country as well as those from other parts of the world as well, such as Thailand and their home country of Japan.
The couple was made popular by the Netflix reality show The Boyfriend, which was aired in 2024 and involved nine gay or bisexual men looking to fall in love. The show was the first same-sex dating show in Japan. Dai and Shun were the only two inhabitants of the house to successfully pair off.
Since the end of The Boyfriend, multiple opportunities have opened for the couple, such as an acting role for Dai in the show Nippon Ichi no Saitei Otoko: Watashi no Kazoku wa Nisemono datta.
“There's been a lot of different experiences that we were able to have after the show like being in magazines, singing our own songs, advertising merchandise, and we want to work harder to be able to have more opportunities and experiences even after,” Shun said via a translator.
“After the show, we got a lot opportunities. Things like we get to share our thoughts with people and that's something I've been wanting to do for a long time, but to do that you need to be lucky enough to be able to do that. I'm very grateful to be able to share my thoughts and ideas with people,” added Dai.
