MANILA, Philippines — From walking on the ramp and winning the Manhunt International 2024, Kevin Dasom is venturing into acting in “Binibining Marikit,” with Herlene Budol as the female lead star.

The Thai-Irish talent plays the hottie AFAM, a foreigner who resides in the Philippines, named Matthew. The character is in the process of nurturing a broken heart.

When asked if the GMA Afternoon Prime series was his first foray into acting during a recent press conference, Kevin answered in the affirmative.

“Binibining Marikit” is his first-ever in the local television, but he did acting in Thailand when he was in his teens, as said in a report.

“It has been amazing working with Herlene and Ms. Pokwang and everyone on set as well,” shared Kevin of his work experience. “I don’t feel like, similar to Tony, I don’t feel like I’m a newcomer here. They’re welcoming and (I feel) like I’ve been here for 25 years.”

In the TV series, Pokwang’s character Mayumi is the biological mom to Herlene’s Marikit, while Tony Labrusca takes on the role of Marikit’s knight in shining armor, Drew.

From his chat with GMA Network Online Exclusive, one could gather that Kevin’s Matthew is in a tough plight, romantic relationship-wise. Matthew and a childhood sweetheart did part their ways prior to getting married. Matthew considers his situation a new environment and, as someone may put it, a new experience.

“He doesn’t know what to do, how to react, what to say because that’s a new environment for him. So, he’s kinda learning the process of how to get over a breakup, especially one that was so important to him,” said Kevin.

If ever the earlier episodes of “Binibining Marikit” show that Matthew has made some hasty decisions or done some “love scam,” the character is not in his best element.

In the same content, he also shared pieces of advice to avoid falling victim to a love scam.

“First one, they don’t actually send live photos or they don’t actually video call or they just do a whole bunch of love bombing,” said he, adding that the latter refers to someone who over compliments you with statements such as “you’re so amazing, you’re so beautiful, you’re  wonderful. They don’t say anything like real because they’ve never met you before and they don’t know who you are.”

Kevin has been visiting the Philippines since 2018 and has been to many local places, he told Kapuso Insider. He could attest to Pinoys’ hospitality and welcoming attitude to everyone.   “Hopefully, I can learn Tagalog very quickly,” shared he. “Hopefully, I can get more embedded in the TV series and in the movies and I heard that GMA produces great game shows and I’d love to go in and do some game shows.”

For someone who is dealing with the inevitable tough times in a relationship, Kevin said to GMA Online Exclusive, “Give yourself time to go through these things. Let yourself feel hurt and let yourself feel confused, angry, frustrated… let yourself go through these and grow through these things.”

If one has made mistakes, one can also learn from them, added he. One needs to “look beyond the horizon, at least try to look beyond the horizon,” and “do not self-destruct. Navigate it naturally,” shared he.

Going back to his onscreen partnership with Herlene, Kevin was inquired about the possibility of falling in love with his leading lady.

“I can’t shut down any possibilities now, but I would like to, like, be respectful about (it),” answered he.
