MANILA, Philippines — Principal Yolanda Gonzales of Tarlac National High School has brought pride to the country as she was named Best Principal of the Year at the 26th World School Summit at the House of Lords in London.
According to the Department of Education Central Luzon office, Gonzales received the international award for her leadership in cultivating inclusive, globally aware and high-performing school environments.
Her work in implementing institutional reforms at one of the Philippines’ oldest public high schools earned praise from education leaders and summit organizers.
This recognition, according to DepEd Central Luzon, highlights the transformative impact of strong school-level leadership, particularly in public education and demonstrates how vision, coordination and aligned policies can bring about measurable improvements in student outcomes and community engagement.
“Her recognition is not merely personal,” DepEd Central Luzon said. “It affirms that with vision, coordination and policy alignment, public school leadership in the Philippines can meet and even exceed global standards.”
The global gathering brought together more than 20 education leaders from over 30 countries.
