MANILA, Philippines — The live-action movie remake of Disney's "Tangled" is coming to fruition after casting its two lead stars.
Young actors Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim have tapped to portray Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the planned remake of the popular 2010 film, taking on the roles originated by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.
Croft is best known for playing Rachel a.k.a. Raven on "Titans" while Manheim starred in Disney's "Zombies" franchise.
Director Michael Gracey, an Australian like Croft, will helm the project having previously directed the musical films "The Greatest Showman" and "Better Man."
"Thor: Love and Thunder" co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who directed and wrote last year's "I Know What You Did Last Summer," pens the script with Kristin Burr producing.

Next on the cast list is an actress to play the villain Mother Gothel, with big names like Scarlett Johansson and Kathryn being thrown in the mix.
The original "Tangled" was well-received upon its release, earning over $592 million (almost P34 billion) at the global box office.
Last year was a mixed bag for Disney in terms of live-action remakes: "Snow White" was critically-panned and considered a flop while "Lilo & Stitch" was one of just four movies that grossed over a billion dollars (two others were also Disney-owned).
In the pipeline are remakes for "Moana," "Hercules," "Bambi" and sequels for "Lilo & Stitch" and "Cruella."
Past Disney live-action remakes include "Alice in Wonderland," "Maleficent," "Cinderella," "The Jungle Book," "Beauty and the Beast," "Dumbo," "Aladdin," "The Lion King," "Mulan," and "The Little Mermaid."
