The Tandang Sora Women's Museum in Quezon City is officially open to the public!

The museum's opening was held Wednesday during the death anniversary of the late Filipina revolutionary, Melchora Aquino, also known as Tandang Sora. The event was led by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Senator Risa Hontiveros.

According to the Quezon City Government, it is the first-ever women's museum in the Philippines.

It spotlights Melchora's significant role in Philippine history and also has her memorabilia on display. Moreover, the museum features sculptures, books about women's history in the Philippines, and a special exhibit titled "HERstorical Philippine Timeline." It has an exhibit area and a creativity corner, too.

The museum had its soft opening in January.

Tandang Sora Women’s Museum curator and artist Sandra Torrijos previously said in an interview for Kuya Kim's segment on "24 Oras" that the museum was inspired by the late revolutionary's virtues.

"Ang museum ay pinangalanan nating Tandang Sora Women’s Museum dahil tinitingala natin si Tandang Sora. Ito ay na-inspire ng kaniyang mga virtues nga, mapagkalinga, matulungin, mapagserbisyo, at higit doon din ay ang kaniyang katapangan," she said.

Torrijos added that the museum is an ongoing recording of women's stories.

The Tandang Sora Women's Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This February and March, the museum is free admission to QCitizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and the public.

Location: Beside Tandang Sora National Shrine on Banlat Road, Quezon City.
