MANILA, Philippines — A policeman assigned in Taguig City is facing administrative complaints over allegations that he sexually harassed an eight-year-old girl.

National Police Commission executive officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan said cases of grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer have been filed against Cpl. Michael Jo Nogales.

Nogales, a member of the Taguig police substation 4, allegedly harassed the girl on June 21, asking to kiss her on the cheek because she is prettier than his wife: “Puwedeng pa-kiss sa pisngi. Mas maganda ka pa sa asawa ko.”

The victim’s mother said Nogales repeatedly caressed the girl’s face without her consent, which caused the girl to feel intimidated, uncomfortable and embarrassed.

Calinisan has ordered a comprehensive review of the recruitment system to strengthen the screening process and prevent people like Nogales from entering the police force.
