IN a ceremony held at the Philippine Navy Headquarters on Jan. 22, 2025, TAG Resort Coron recognized the Philippine Navy for their swift response during a medical emergency at the resort in December 2024.
The timely and coordinated efforts of the Philippine Navy underscored their commitment to public service beyond their core mandate of national defense.
Stephen Rey Tagud, managing director of TAG Resort Coron, presented the Certificate of Recognition to Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta, Flag Officer in Command, along with Rear Admiral Alan Javier, Rear Admiral Juario Marayag, Commodore Ireneo Battung and the team involved in the operation.
The event was graced by TAG Resort Coron's Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sulficio Tagud Jr., and Ross Sarmiento, the resort's head of security.
"This partnership demonstrates the immense value of collaboration between public institutions and private organizations. Together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of the local community of Coron and its visitors," said Tagud Jr.

The recognition ceremony also highlighted the pressing need for improved health care infrastructure in Coron. As a renowned international destination, the municipality has been facing significant challenges in responding to medical emergencies due to the lack of advanced medical facilities.
TAG Resort Coron called for dialogues and collaborative efforts to address these gaps, emphasizing that enhanced health care infrastructure would be essential for sustainable tourism and the long-term development of Coron.
"As Coron continues to attract international travelers, addressing gaps in emergency medical infrastructure is critical. It ensures that we are ready to respond to challenges and will reinforce Coron as a reliable and resilient destination," said TAG Resort Coron managing director Tagud.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Navy expressed gratitude for the recognition.
"The Philippine Navy remains ready to serve wherever and whenever needed," said Vice Admiral Ezpeleta.
This collaboration between TAG Resort Coron and the Philippine Navy reflected a shared commitment to community welfare and sustainable progress for Coron, Palawan.
A 2024 data from the Provincial Tourism Promotions and Development Office showed that Coron was the third most visited destination in Palawan, next to Puerto Princesa and El Nido.
A green destination resort
