CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines —  A security guard tagged as the principal suspect in the murder of a 38-year-old woman whose body was found in a plastic storage box in Camarines Norte surrendered to police yesterday.

Arnel Domingo Jr. surrendered to members of the Rosario police in Batangas at around 12:30 a.m. He was accompanied by his father.

Domingo was brought to the Cabuyao police in Laguna where the crime reportedly occurred, according to Col. Jumar Yupio, Laguna police director.

The suspect said he surrendered because he wanted to give his side and he trusted the police.

Domingo was tagged as the killer of his partner, Anelis Agocoy, 37.

Her body was placed inside a plastic storage box, which was found floating in a river in Basud, Camariñes Norte on Monday.

Police said the suspect admitted committing the crime and may sign an affidavit of confession in the presence of a lawyer.

Domingo’s father said his son confided to him that he killed his partner accidentally during a quarrel.

Probers are eyeing a crime of passion as the motive for the killing.

The Camariñes Norte police identified Agocoy’s remains with the help of her friend, who recognized the victim after reading the news on social media.

A relative confirmed the identity of the victim.

A bar code found inside the box led police to a store where the suspect reportedly bought the storage box.

Video footage from a closed-circuit television camera showed the suspect carrying  the box as he boarded a bus bound for Camarines Norte at a terminal in Calamba.
