MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court said that it will still tackle the petition of former lawmaker Zaldy Co despite his fugitive status.
In a press briefing with reporters on Thursday, January 29, Supreme Court spokesperson Camille Ting said that Co’s petition will be “immediately included in the agenda.”
“We will give updates as soon as possible,” Ting said.
“We will have to wait and see how the court acts on his petition,” she added.
On January 25, Co filed a petition assailing the Office of the Ombudsman’s indictment of him for graft and malversation.

In the 2025 case of Vallacar Transit v. Ricardo Yanson, the Supreme Court said that an individual is considered a fugitive from justice starting from the moment a criminal information is filed and a warrant for their arrest is issued.
The high court explained in the case that those who deliberately evade the law and refuse to submit to the court’s authority, such as a fugitive, lose their right to request judicial relief or favorable rulings.
