"It's been a real roller coaster these past months. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called myasthenia gravis, which has made building muscle a real struggle. But I'm so thankful for the strength I've found," Cruz wrote in an Instagram post where she also thanked her fitness coach.

"Walking for Bench was a powerful reminder of what's possible even when things are tough. To all my fellow moms and Gen Xers, never give up on your dreams," the 47-year-old added.

According to mayoclinic.org, myasthenia gravis causes muscles under voluntary control to feel weak and tire quickly due to a breakdown in communication between nerves and muscles.

There is currently no cure for the said disease, only treatment for symptoms, which may include weakness in the arms or legs, double vision, drooping eyelids, and problems with speaking, chewing, swallowing and breathing.
