MANILA, Philippines — A tropical storm with the international name Hagupit will enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said Hagupit may enter PAR around afternoon or evening.
If it enters PAR, it will be given the local name Caloy, the third tropical cyclone this year.
Based on the weather satellite, Hagupit was last located 1,385 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, moving westward at 20 km per hour, packing winds of 85 kph and gusts of 105 kph.
It will not make landfall but will bring cloudy skies over Eastern Visayas and Bicol.
Meanwhile, the easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Palawan.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, also caused by the easterlies.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered PNP offices and operational units to finalize deployment plans in preparation for the storm.
