The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) on Thursday said state necrological services and funeral details will be held for Nora Aunor, who died at the age of 71 on Wednesday, April 16.

In a statement released through its Facebook page, the NCCA said details of the services and the funeral are to be announced, as it cited Aunor’s filmography of over 170 films, which is “exceeded only by the number of awards and citations” she received from local and international organizations.

To recall, Aunor bagged her first Best Actress award at the Gawad Urian and the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) for her performance of ‘Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos’ in 1976. She was inducted to the FAMAS Hall of Fame in 1992.

She also scored a grandslam from all of the five award-giving bodies in 1990 — Gawad Urian, FAMAS, Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), and Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) — for her role in ‘Paano ba ang Maging Isang Ina?’”

She was then given the FAP Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993, and was a recipient of the Centennial Honors for the Arts given by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1999.

Aunor, also known for her singing voice with popular songs “Pearly Shells” and “Tiny Bubbles,” was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast in 2022.

Among her last films are “Mananambal” and “Pieta.” She also appeared in GMA Afternoon Prime series “Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law” in 2024.

Aunor’s death was announced by her son, Ian de Leon, on Wednesday evening, as he said his mother was “the source of unconditional love, strength, and warmth.” Matet de Leon, Nora’s daughter, also grieved her mother’s death on Instagram.

She married actor Christopher de Leon in 1975, but later separated and had their marriage annulled in 1996. They have five children: Ian, Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth.
