MANILA, Philippines — Filipino celebrities and personalities on Sunday flocked to Luneta Park and the EDSA People Power Monument for the September 21 rallies in response to the alleged corruption in flood control projects in the country.

Two major protests were staged — “Baha sa Luneta: Aksyon na Laban sa Korapsyon” at Luneta and the “Trillion Peso March” at EDSA. Organizers said both were timed with the anniversary of the 1972 martial law declaration.
At Luneta, actresses Jodi Sta. Maria, Angel Aquino, Tessie Tomas, Andrea Brillantes, and Maris Racal as well as director Antoinette Jadaone were spotted among demonstrators.

Brillantes reminded protesters not to limit dissent to social media.
“Hindi madali, pero importante. Nandito tayo. Walang makakalimot,” she said.
Racal, meanwhile, captioned on her Instagram, “Serbisyo sa tao, huwag gawing negosyo.”
At EDSA, among those who joined the crowd were Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Jasmine Curtis, Nadine Lustre, Kaila Estrada, Catriona Gray, Ion Perez, Erwan Heussaff, Darren Espanto, Ogie Alcasid, Jackie Gonzaga, Donny Pangilinan, Gabbi Garcia, Khalil Ramos and Iza Calzado.
Others include Elijah Canlas, Alex Medina, Gardo Versoza, Jane De Leon, Julia Barretto, Marjorie Barretto, Leon Barretto, Ivana Alawi, David Licauco, Dustin Yu, Bianca Gonzalez, Mika Salamanca, Alexander Diaz, Benedix Ramos and Jerom Canlas.
Gray stressed unity and accountability in a lengthy statement on Instagram, “We wear no colors—we stand together united for our nation. We will not be satisfied with theatrics or empty promises. We demand accountability.”
Curtis echoed the call, saying, “May this be the generation that breaks the chains of corruption. What was stolen was never theirs to keep, but ours to build the Philippines we love.”
Pangilinan added, “The shift has begun. The Filipinos are awake. Tama na. Ikulong na ang mga magnanakaw. Ibalik ang pera ng taumbayan.”
Other personalities such as Dingdong Dantes, Kim Atienza, Jerald Napoles, Kim Molina, and Faith Da Silva joined an anti-corruption running event in Makati earlier in the day.
And while some celebrities could not join physically, they voiced out through their respective social media accounts.
Actress Angel Locsin broke her social media silence, posting a message of support, “Watching the hearings, I couldn’t help but remember families who lost their homes and lives to floods. Naiiyak ako sa galit. Pero mas nakakapanghina kung mananahimik lang tayo.”
Sophia Laforteza, Filipina member of the global girl group Katseye, expressed solidarity online, “My heart is with my people. We dream of a Philippines free from corruption, where accountability and compassion guide us forward.”
