Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona ordered the evacuation of the agency's research facility in La Granja, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental following the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
The administrator, however, said a 20-member skeleton crew, composed of mostly guards, remained at the site to secure the facility.
He also said that they have activated SRA's Disaster Response Team, led by SRA Planters' Representative and Board Member David Sanson. He added that the agency is on alert and currently ensuring the safety of its personnel.
The SRA La Granja Agricultural Research and Extension Center (LGAREC) has 187 employees and 40 field workers.
Board Member Dave Sanson said their disaster response teams are closely monitoring the situation. The teams have also prepared relief supplies and set aside P4 million in funds for other emergency needs. The agency also said its vehicles are available for deployment if requested by local government units.

Azcona added that in the event of a magmatic eruption or if Kanlaon's status is raised to Alert Level 4, SRA's Bacolod Office would serve as a temporary evacuation center for displaced SRA workers.
Kanlaon Volcano erupted on Tuesday morning, and produced an estimated 4,000-meter tall voluminous bent plume. It is currently under Alert Level 3.
