Manhunt International 2024 and Sparkle artist Kevin Dasom

MANILA, Philippines — Mister Supranational 2024 Dr. Fezile Mkhize from South Africa, Mister Global 2024 Dom Corilla from the Philippines, and Manhunt International 2024 Kevin Dasom from Thailand are in the country to grace the finals of Mister Pilipinas Worldwide, happening tonight, April 28, in Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.
At a press conference at Okada Manila last Sunday, April 27, the handsome trio was asked about their achievements as pageant kings.
Mkhize, a medical doctor and actor, became the first South African, the first African and the first Black winner of the Mister Supranational pageant. He was crowned as the first runner-up at the Mister World 2019 pageant, which was held in the Philippines where he also won the continental title of Mister World Africa 2019.
“Whenever I'm asked about that, because I'm closer to my end than a lot of other people, I think I've really been thinking about what it is that has been the highlight. And the whole journey's been great.," he said.
“I think handing over is going to be the pinnacle for me, because as soon as I got it, I always wanted to tell myself, you're going to hand it over in a year. So, do what you can when you can, so that when you hand the sash over, it feels a little heavier, because you want the person who takes it to feel like they have a responsibility. And it's not in a mean way, but it's in a way of saying, if you're a title holder, you need to feel like you are stepping into big shoes, so that the next person has even bigger shoes.
“And I'm hoping at the end of it, I'll look back and say, handing the sash is probably the biggest achievement I've had, because I've poured so much into it. But I still have a couple more weeks to go, so yeah, we'll see at the end. Thank you so much.”
As a Sparkle Artist, Dasom is being catapulted to leading-man status in his initial foray into Philippine showbusiness. He plays one of the love interests of beauty queen-actress Herlene Budol in the GMA Afternoon Prime series, “Binibining Marikit”:
“When I came back into this industry, as I mentioned earlier, I left in 2018 to pursue professional sports. So, coming back into this industry, I needed to answer a couple of questions. And on top of the answers were, I wanted to achieve greatness.
“Because if I settle for anything less, why am I coming back into this industry? And I don't know if I've done that yet. I don't know how I'll do that. But I know that every day, I get an opportunity to do that.
“And I hope along the way that I'm impacting people, changing their lives, giving them something to believe in, maybe something to hope for, or even strive towards. Because, you know, like a great man once said, you can either be cool or you can be great.
“But being cool, it's not always great. But being great, that's pretty cool," he said.
